I have used another cup that was smooth-sided and came with these slip-on pieces to keep your hand from feeling the heat, but I think that's a pain to remember. I'd rather the cup be textured like this one so that no matter where I put my hand, it does not feel the heat. Not only do I use these for my hot tea, but I love to make a grilled cheese sandwich and heat up some prepared tomato soup - in one of these cups. While I'm cooking the grilled cheese, the soup is in one of these cups in the microwave heating up. I can make my TomChee lunch in about 5 minutes that way! AND I don't burn my hand on the hot soup when it is in this cup!
